I have read one book by this author before, A Deal with the Elf King, and it reignited my passion for reading. This book has been on my to read since and I just now got around to it.
There’s something about Elise’s writing style and ability to make you love these characters that I just can’t get over. The beginning of this book was a little choppy for me - details and things slowly coming to light, information being confusing. Lots of characters introduced, etc.
It was a little difficult to get started - oh but when I did, I couldn’t put it down. I loved the MC - and the things she had dealt with up to the end? Geez, poor girl - I was crying for her. I couldn’t stop my page turning - I was INVESTED!!!
I bought the second book in the series before I even updated Goodreads that I had finished the first.

So good I couldn't stop reading after I started.
I love the dynamic between Vhalla and Arlick. I love how their friendship (and love) built slowly, realistically. Nothing was overdone or left unsaid that didn't perfectly balance this book the way it was meant to be. I cannot wait to read the second.

result : i know i enjoyed it while i was reading (not loving it though) but i literally don't care about the characters. the only one interesting was aldrik. vhalla kinda annoys me because i just find her boring and flat.

This book was very good! 4.7/5 I really enjoyed Vhalla and Aldrik's dynamic. Vhalla is really starting to come into her own in this one slowly but surely but we love to see it! Anyway, the romance and slight angst offsets the semi annoying non observant traits that Vhalla has but ya know got to have it with a romance. This was a very good first book and I can't wait to see what else is in store. Especially near the end my heart was racing!! I feel like I will love Vhalla more and more as the series goes on! Definitely reminded me of the Black Mage series and that's how I found this series- so it was a win-win! Anyway check out this book it's good read :)
