“You know what the Chinese think is the saddest feeling in the world? It’s for a child to finally grow the desire to take care of his parents, only to realize that they were long gone.”
I cannot believe a story so short made me feel so many emotions. This was incredible and heart wrenching all in one!

Levar Burton read this to me. I liked it so much I bought the full short-story collection.
incredibly heartbreaking. thank you to my teacher for making me read this, i actually really enjoyed it and kinda sobbed
This story absolutely broke my heart. My attention was held from beginning to end. I’ve heard a lot of this author and needless to say I wasn’t disappointed. At its core it’s a story about coming of age with a immigrant parent, but it’s also holding onto the magic of old traditions.
I listened to the title story on LeVar Burton reads. Excellent. Read a second time for my book/article club meeting
