The concept is so cool but I just didn't care for the story as much. Still undecided about whether I will read the next book because I had to force myself through 80% of the boring parts of the book to get to the interesting 20%. I understand why the characters are ages 12-14 as it makes sense for the "discovery of magical powers" storyline but the rest of the story would make so much sense if the characters were older. If there's a time jump for the rest of the books I might consider them

Sunny, who is an outsider- American born albino now living in Nigeria, finds her people and becomes a chosen one. As a free agent, Sunny has no idea of the world she's suddenly thrust in to, but she enjoys learning how to wield juju. She makes friends as she expands her world. The world Sunny joins is vivid and magical. She (and we readers) learn some truly valuable lessons. This was a fun read!
