so so beautiful
would consider this a second favourite of the year so far— nothing is beating one day in december!!

first thing to mention, i love jandy nelson. i honestly don’t think there’s enough words to describe how talented and amazing this woman is. her writing style is unique, advanced and poetic. i was expecting amazement after reading ‘i’ll give you the sun’ and i got exactly that. this woman will never run out of things to say and how to say them.

i loved all the characters in this one, atleast majority of the time. they were all well-written and played a unique part in the story. especially gram, god i would give my heart and soul to her :(
joe i admired so much that i also hurt for him after lennie crushed his heart into thousands of pieces!!!!

but one thing i didn’t love:
lennie’s romance with toby— didn’t enjoy it at all, but can see why the writer included this to begin with as it does show lennie’s growth when she puts a stop to it
however, i feel like if i was in lennie’s position i would’ve ended it after the first mishap

things i loved:
the poem concept.
joe fontaine.
the ONE book that appealed to lennie
gram.
big.
at this point i might aswell just include every other character in the book.

moral of the point, it was amazing and romantic and devastating all at the same time, which proves to be a realistic and appreciative love story that needs to be read.

Snail Mail Book Club. Wow, this author has mad skillz. The characters are wholly illuminated and must be invited to dinner.

This book was beautifully written and will definitely be a re-read for me in the future. Although at times I had issues with the romance parts, Jandy Nelson deals so realistically with grief and loss that it was hard not to love this book. Lennie as a character could be annoying at times, but that's partly what made her so relatable for me; I understood the mistakes she made. I also loved the extra poems and images added to the novel, it really allows the reader to connect with Lennie and follow her story. I can't wait to read more from this author.

This story was just plain beautiful start to finish.

I remember really liking this book (I think I read it in like 6th or 7th grade) so expectations were high, but now I’m wishing I hadn’t revisited. It’s basically above-average fan fiction. Scared to revisit her other book.

This wasn't too bad, but it wasn't great either. All of the characters sounded the same when talking. It was way too emo for me. Just not really my kind of thing, but it was fairly well written, so I feel like I can't rate it too low.

Since I've read I'll give you the sun I was wondering to read this book.
I really love Jandy Nelson's books and this book was awesome.
I didn't know what this book was about but that was better because then I can enter the story easily.
I like the story and how it work. About the characters, sometimes I wanted to kill Lennie, she can't be understood with some decitions she made. About Joe, HE IS MY SUNSHINE HE IS MY EVERYTHING OKAY? I LOVE HIM MORE THAN ANYTHING, Joe deserve everything and when Lennie threat him bad I wanted to punch her in the face, Joe is good, kind and funny everything a girl want but... then, the stupid Toby appear, HE IS REALLY STUPID, a character who is always saying how miserable his live is and using Lennie to feel better, that's unfair! I know he have problems but everyone have problems don't use the others stupid toby. I really hate the character...
The end of the book was beautiful and I enjoy it too much, Jandy Nelson make another fantastic book

8/10 and 4/5 stars

My Kindle informs me that I began reading this book back in January. I only just finished reading it now, November 10th. It started out ok, I gave it a chance, but it became difficult to want to keep reading. First, it feels like she wrote the book as a movie (god forbid this is ever made into one). Second, Lennie, is so blah. I know she's grieving her sister, but the way that she is grieving was so bizarre. I couldn't connect with it at all, and I've done my fair share of grieving.

All the characters seemed somewhat flat, bare two dimensional at times, but the dimensions didn't even fit together. Lennie was grieving and then making out with her sister's fiance? I really don't see this happening, ever, especially not with a teenager. I don't know, the whole thing was totally un-relatable.

I literally skimmed the 2nd half of the book just so I can mark it read AND find out how the story ends.

I guess some of the writing is good. Meh. I didn't like it.
