I've got mixed feelings about this book. I think it's amazing that all main characters are women of colour. They have all dealt with horrifying situations in their lives and it's important to talk about their trauma because many readers might be able to relate to that. I really enjoyed the focus on women helping each other.
As crucial these issues may be, please be sure to check out the content warnings as a lot of heavy topics like rape are discussed repeatedly.
Another aspect I found intriguing was the journey of the Wild Ones. They travel through quite a few different cities of the world and it was interesting to get to know a little more about them.
Unfortunately, the beginning of the book was very confusing. I wasn't totally convinced by the world building. It doesn't help that there are alternating POVs that include Paheli's and also the Wild One's' perspective, meaning it's written in first person plural. That and the fact that the Wild Ones are eleven women made it hard to follow the different plots and to learn more about individual characters.
I still think it's worth a shot if you're looking for a new feminist fantasy series to read!

The story was great. I didn't like the relationship between Paheli and Taraana
What a lyrical, magical, empowering book this is. The storytelling is inspiring and the story itself is captivating. A complex magic system, bright cast of characters, and a different universe than one we have ever seen. Azad’s prose reads like poetry and I want to recommend this book to every young person I know who has an open mind and an open heart. Just stunning.
It just wasn't interesting. Things felt all over the place, and not continuous.
