I've read a large amount of urban fantasy, so I've become pretty picky in the process.
First off, this isn't remotely in the paranormal romance genre, so there aren't 30-page-long awkward attempts at porn, or a heroine that spends more time worrying about a guy's rock-hard abs instead of catching a murderer.
Rather, you have a thrill-ride of a book that reminds me a bit of the Rachel Caine "Weather Warden" books in tone. And, for once, we have a heroine/FBI agent who is much more concerned with the case than any peripheral drama--hallelujah!
I hope to see more books from D.D. Barant and more of this series!

Very cool, well thought out book. Lots of amusing puns. Well written. Looking forward to continuing to read this series.
3 1/2 I liked the story enough to be interested in reading the next book.
I’m not sure about this series yet. I am amused by Jace but overall I’m not grabbed by the story or the world yet.
Paranormal good, a well conceived universe. Not overly fond of the detective. Too aggressive, done before.
Not what I expected. I ended up thinking that it was okay, but not sure if I want to read/hear the next book in the series.
I like the characters and the plot, but the book read weird.
A fun read. Magic meets technology in this crazy world.
Uh,aah, well... I have no idea how to review this book! I don't know what to make of it, how to feel about it, it wasn't horrible yet not that entertaining...
The beginning was a bit weird, somewhat unusual of what i'm used to expect, well... in a beginning, but now that i give it a second thought, quite cool.
This whole parallel universe was very intriguing and fascinating but the author somehow ruined it for me. Maybe it's just me, but there were way many characters, side plots going on i just couldn't follow, information assailing me from everywhere and i just tried to make sense of what the author was saying, as she was jumping from one thing to another. This book was full of inconsistencies that made it mind-boggling (at least to me).
I guess Jace Valchek was a decent character, she was snippy and ill-manered and i admit i liked her for that, though sometimes she was just too much.
Also, I'm supposed to be impressed by her skills since she's a profiler and all, but obviously am not. I don't recall her doing anything special throughout the book and while i was waiting for something extraordinary to happen towards the end as the book was reaching it's climax... we got NOTHING, a huge let-down. The ending was quite abrupt and felt rushed.
Apart from all that, it was an ok book that has potential. I will give this series another try for sure, the only reason being, that i liked (yet again) the second characters so much. I've enjoyed Charlie the golem, her bodyguard,Tanaka her fling and Doctor Pete her almost-fling...
All in all, this could be one of those books that are so awesome my petty mind can't grasp the greatness of it... then again i might be right and this one had some shortcomings.
