I really liked the difference in history between their world and ours. I'm excited to read the next one.

Now THIS is great world building. Absolutely love this alternate monster reality. Great, unexpected story, and a tough, funny female leads. Like all beginning stories in a new series, there were some rocky points, but I really liked it. I have the distinct impression that the books will get better and better. :D

The second half is considerably better than the first--it was at that point that I quit checking how many pages were left. A lot of the book, though, is just the main character scoping out potential paramours. She's surrounded by guys and they're all interested. Borrrring.
adventurous dark mysterious

This is probably a 2.5 stars but I'm having a hard time rounding up and not down. I think I rounded down due to the potential this book started with but how it did not develop. If she is so smart why does her contract negotiations only have to do with money, no time allowance, if you don't tell me the truth this is null and void, no how did I get here. and she's so proud of herself after the negotiations. If she's so smart why not investigate what's real? She is supposedly so promiscuous why is she always talking herself out of it. I felt whiplash during the whole book. I love cozy books which you have to take a lot for granted but this really stretch that ability

DNF - I hate to use those letters. I always finish. HATED the main character, she was completely unrealistic, made it halfway and stopped wasting the time. Bummed me out it wasn't better.

Not the best but decent. Go with the flow, ignore the improbabilities and you'll be just fine.

While I loved the voice of the main character Jace and the interesting world building we've gotten into, I found the pacing of the novel to be utterly distracting.

It's refreshing to see a mystery which isn't resolved in the space of 4 days but the jumps that mysteriously covered 2 weeks, only to be covered in 2 paragraphs were distracting enough to throw me off. That said, I enjoyed the characters enough to give the next 2 books a go.

Really fun read. The heroine, Jace, is snarky and often abrasive, but gets the job done. I eagerly await reading the next book(s) in the series.

An interesting spin on the vampire/werewolf urban fantasy storyline. Instead of living amongst us, these sups live in an alternate dimension, parallel to our own. I found the heroine a bit "normal" in that she's a fit, kick ass gal, who has bad luck with men. (is there any other type?)

All in all, I enjoyed the storyline and I'm not going to give much away. Suffice to say, I'm looking forward to reading the next few books in the series.
