The times were, in fact, not exciting!

Marketed as some politically intelligent & revolutionary book but to be honest this protagonist is aggressively mediocre at best, as are the political takes in it, and the whole book is made out to be much more than it actually is. Seemed as though her (protagonist) only purpose was to channel the author's opinions and sell them as something sensational. Can't say I find the concept of pro choice necessarily ground breaking but perhaps that is because I agree with it.

Was funny and mildly interesting at times but not much beyond that. Pacing slows down towards the end in my opinion.

One thing I was a bit taken back by was that one passage where the conversation of two locals is transcribed as, as it seemed to me, random vaguely Chinese-sounding nonsense "words" because the protagonist overhearing it doesn't speak the language which did seem a little offensive to me. I don't know though, I don't speak Chinese either to be fair.
