Not reading this immediately after the first book made the beginning of this a little hard to get into. At the start of this novel, the characters have already had their meet cute, and we're starting a bit into what's already been done for their romance. As such, my initial investment wasn't very high.
After that hurdle, I was much more invested. The characters are really charming, and I found myself rooting for them. And unlike Anna-Maria and the Fox, the sex scenes weren't nearly so cringey, and there weren't any awful pet names.

Liana does it again, historical romance that is diverse, showcases a strong FMC and a swoonworthy MMC! A strong FMC who is trying to do her part to help her country while also fighting the trauma of having a parent who made her feel less than. An MMC who supports her in her quest and then travels across a literal ocean and gives up his life in England to be with her! Just sooo good!

This is the second book in the Luna Sister series (and I read this one first - whoops), and wow what a delight. I love a Victorian era romance, and this one really hit the mark! It mixes all the elements of Victorian romance that I love with an accurate historical backdrop. You'll swoon. You'll cheer. You'll learn a thing or two about Mexican independence from French occupation.
