I enjoyed this book so much! I’m pretty selective with historical fiction and Liana De la Rosa always hits. This is the second book and I’m so excited that we got to explore Isa’s story as she is an introvert who loves reading. It was interesting to read about how she felt in comparison to her sisters and how she fought for her country. Sirius is so supportive of Isa and I love the two bookworms together.

I love the world that Liana De la Rosa has created, beautifully weaving her fictional characters into a developed historical background. Seeing Dawson’s unwavering adoration in Isabel was delightful, and seeing her come into her own self was so powerful. I wish there was a little more development into their character arcs, but the plot was paced well and was still a thoroughly enjoyable book!

I struggled with this one. I really liked the first book in the series, but I have found both characters difficult to care about, and I didn’t buy Isabella as a spy, given how many times she was caught in the previous book. The pace felt very slow. Usually, I inhale books, but it took me a long time to even make it to 30%
