this book had me smiling, giggling, and kicking my feet— it was so FUN!! yeah there were some pacing issues in the middle/the end felt rushed but the espionage plot was well-crafted & the ROMANCE?? Incredible. Isabel & Sirius were fully fleshed out characters & complemented each other well. And, honestly, a man who will recite your favorite poems to you & listen to you chat about your favorite books? Perfect man. No notes.
Also: while it’s a slow burn romance, when you get to the spice…. The spice is good 😉 iykyk

Liana De la Rose is truly writing some of the best romance out there. This was just so freaking smart and well done
*somewhere between 3.5 and 4 stars*
I enjoyed both main characters and their dynamic, they had great chemistry which made their relationship compelling and there were some good steamy scenes between them. The relationship between the sisters continues to be one of my favorite elements of this series. I also appreciate that this explores historical events that often are not explored in historical romances. While the story kept my interest, the truth is that I wasn't completely invested in the plot about spies and conspiracies and I think the developments in regards to that plotline were a bit too slow-paced.

respectfully....I'm dnfing because I was bored out of my mind.
Another solid historical romance by Liana De la Rosa. I love reading historicals set with characters with backgrounds less familiar to the Regency-reader. Isabel and her sisters in England to stay safe during the French occupation of Mexico added a perspective of the era I'd not read before. Living in Texas, I'm embarassed to admit I had no idea that France occupied Mexico during the american civil war era... De la Rosa does a great job mixing history into the narrative without info dumping like a textbook. I also enjoyed how Isabel used what she had to help the Mexican president stay safe from the French colonizers, even though she was a wallflower and anxious in social settings. Isabel and Sirius fall for each other as they are essentially working as spies against French interests; and it was such a sweet story of "i didn't intend to fall for you but oops I have feelings now"... The spicy scenes were hot and also lovely being focused mostly on her pleasure, and I loved the care with contraception as well. Looking forward to reading Gabby's book in this series next year as she is the feisty outspoken one of the three.

Intellectually, spiritually, and emotionally I should like this book. But there’s something about this type of progressive or romance literature that feels so preachy and condescending to the reader. It’s not that the characters have no chemistry together, it’s just they’re constantly “educating” each other so you can never know what they actually like about the other person. It feels like I am the key demographic for this book, and yet so much of it is me just trying to trudge through something that is supper hard to describe but feels like preaching to the choir and not a fun or cute romance.
It was good tho.

After reading Ana Maria and the Fox I was super excited for Isabel's book, and I was not disappointed. I love how Liana De la Rosa gives us swoon-worthy historical romances that are also rich with historical context and information. I think the element of Isabel having to gather information and spy was really entertaining and added a memorable layer to this book. The romance was lovely, I am always looking for tension and this book definitely delivered that.
I am so excited for the third and final book of the Luna sisters series and can't wait to read Gabriela's arc.
thank you to Berkley Romance for the e-arc and finished copy!
