Miscommunication will always get a star deduction in a book for me, I cannot stand it. I liked that he went after her in the end instead of the other way around.
Trigger Warnings: racism, classism, colorism, blackmail, mention of war, PTSD, gun violence, and blood

This book was a lot less focused on the slow burn romance than the 1st book in the series but I really enjoyed it. It felt like a story of unlikely allies, doing spy stuff and falling in love in the process. Isabel is going to be relatable to so many of us book lovers. She is struggling with finding her place in a society that is honestly pretty unwelcoming, and feeling like she has to prove herself as worthy surrounded by her two sisters who shine so easily.
This story was a little less romantic than Ana Maria & the Fox, but don't let that trick you into thinking it wont be spicy. Isa & Dawson have serious (pun intended) tension & chemistry & the definitely let it loose. You know what they say about the quiet ones. haha. I loved seeing Isa's confidence grow and watching her work & fight for her dreams. I am so happy with how this book ended. I definitely could have seen the HEA be achieved differently, but this ending was exactly what I wanted.
The only reason I can't give this a 5 is because it look a while for me to get into it. It could just be the reading slump I am pulling myself out of though. I could definitely see myself rereading this and loving it even more.
