This second installment in the Luna Sisters series was an excellent follow up to the first! I’ll admit I almost pushed this off a bit since the first one for me was good, but not amazing and I am so glad I didn’t listen to myself. For me this one was a nearly perfect read and I was kicking my feet and blushing through so many scenes. Our leads in this one are the middle Luna sister, Isabel, and the rogue about town, Captain Sirius Dawson. Isabel has always been the quiet wallflower who most overlook, which works for her seeing as she can escape most events to find the library and enjoy the company of books, or as of late the chance to sneak around to find any crumbs of news about the French military and their plans for her homeland of Mexico. Captain Dawson works for the Home Office wooing widows and wives of high ranking men in the ton to garner and whispers of important knowledge the government should know. It also happens that Sirius can’t help but be drawn to Isabel as he catches her a few times in the act of not-so-carefully snooping. Isabel wants to hate him, but can’t explain some of the feelings she gets when she looks into his eyes. Again we have a more slow burn like in the first novel, but the spice and excellent banter is there and I couldn’t stop giggling when they were bickering and pushing one another. The background history interwoven into the story was fascinating as well and I am so happy the author makes that a priority in this series. I definitely recommend this and am now anxiously awaiting the third book for Gabby’s story!

I always have a soft spot for bookish wallflowers so I knew I would love Isabel. I also love a misunderstood rake, so it feels like this story was made for me!

I feel like i got a little history lesson, I truly appreciate the time put into the history research. I actually read the authors note (not something I often do) and found it extremely informative.

Sirius was so tortured. I hope we get a little more of his and Isa's HEA in the next book. Speaking of, I very much look forward to Gabby's book. She's a little spitfire who's going to take a Duke to his knees!

Content warnings: racism, colonialism, xenophobia, war, descriptions of physical injuries

This book took me a solid week to read and I genuinely have no idea why because I loved the dynamic between Isabel and Sirius. I think my brain is pudding because of the end of term? But yeah. I loved this. It just took me forever to get through by my standards, but that's definitely a Me Thing and not a Book Thing.
