- clearly this book is for somebody, and i'm glad.
- to me, it was just an instalove romance with the "all of a sudden, this girl i've known for a long time is...attractive?" trope. which i hate. especially when the girl has had a crush on him for a long time.
- plus, for some reason, i just didn't believe a word that was coming out of Sirius' mouth? like, you've been "forced to be" a player, and never had a serious relationship, and all of a sudden you are all in with Isabel and not looking back? when the only things you notice about her are that she likes books and is smart? lmao
- also, this book is mis-marketed, because there is no fucking espionage. i'm sorry, but dry-humping under a table does not count as plot (iykyk).
- so, overall, if a romance book has no plot and i dislike the romance (and find it trite and based on basically nothing) then i'm gonna dislike the book. it was just so fucking boring that i put off writing this review for half a year because i didn't want to think about the book, it sucked so bad.
- the historical components were fascinating, hence the 1.5 stars.

Ah this book, was sooo good! I loved Isabel more than Ana Maria. Definitely my favorite so far, I loved how Isabel was the shy middle sister. I really enjoyed her relationship with Captain Dawson, and just all the things he showed her how much he cared about her! swoon
I really love Isabel and Sirius's dynamic but it felt a little too drawn out of them not wanting to admit their feelings. But I still like how he moves to Mexico for her.

This was a sweet entry in the series, and I loved the ending. However, I want a little more angst and tension than this one gave.
I am disappointed I didn't like this one more. I was really excited for the "bookish" sister, but I think Isabel's espionage plot was so undefined, she didn't get much opportunity to show off any particular skills. She had to walk this line between sheltered naivete and clever spy that just didn't land for me. Sirius had an actual assignment, which I think helped anchor him in the plot, but even then, they both seemed very ineffective at their "mission" and really it was just a plot device to have them sneaking off together. I did love the ending and him following her to Mexico , but I wish there was a bit more meat to main story.

Isabel, risking her life for her parents safety and for country. And forgoing her happiness for a fulfilling life and for her own ambitions. I can't say I would have chosen a different path for myself. And of course her love interest Sirius is as selfless as she is. She deserves nothing less and this love story progressed exactly the way it should have.
