I’m not sure why there are so many somewhat negative reviews for this book, I absolutely loved it! I’ve loved all of B.A. Paris’ books and The Prisoner was no exception. I loved that it got going and had you hooked from the start and didn’t take a long time to get going as some thrillers do. It was a fast paced, quick read and I found myself not wanting to put it down as I had to know what happened next. It really kept you guessing and was full of exciting twists and suspense. I’m somewhat torn on the ending, I do like that it left your imagination open to kind of fill in and imagine what could happen next, although I partially wish there would have been an epilogue detailing the future and what came next for Amalie. Overall, an excellent and exciting read and I’m so thankful I was able to read it early - special thanks to NetGalley and St. Martins Press for the advance copy!

I wanted to like this one soooo much. I really thought she'd go back to her Behind Closed Doors days with this book, but unfortunately it just didn't work for me. Our main character was annoying, the ending was meh, and the story just wouldn't keep my attention.

This was fine, hence the middle of the road 3 stars. Not particularly memorable and not the best this genre has to offer. It wasn’t horrifically bad by any means, just not overly catching or intense, not really gripping. I was interested to find out what was going on sometimes, but other times it didn’t really hold my interest and was pretty predictable. Just very average.

As others have said, this book felt cheap and unrealistic. It read like a made for tv movie. Paris’ books have consistently decreased in quality with every release since the first two. Might not read the next.
