The writing was beautiful and vulnerable. The lived experience of the main character was painful and honest. I kept me reading compulsively, but I can’t say I really enjoyed it.

This is a wild book. What I'd a funeral home offered stand ins for people you didn't have bodies for for funeral services, video calls to see them again, and even for parties? Maggy's life is soo upsetting for so much of this book and you think it's getting better maybe. Anyway all and all a crazy book.

overall, it was fine.

i really liked the idea but it fell a bit flat for me. the end was anti-climactic. i wasn’t a huge fan of how abortion was talked about. 

i love a female character who is constantly making mistakes, truly. magnolia was a compelling main character and i was rooting for her and it felt like she kept doing the wrong thing every chance she had. a decent glimpse into generational trauma, but again. the ending felt much too rushed for me.

I guess this book is for some people, but not for me. I didn't mind the darker stuff, but found the story to be fairly slow-moving, many of the characters pretty flat and undeveloped, and the ending unsatisfying.

One thing I did not expect from the book synopsis is the amount of graphic sexual content, so just a heads up if that's not something you're looking for.
