I was so happy to see that Shakespeare's play was being made into manga! To see these characters come to life and the plot play out in manga form is just as entertaining as a movie--maybe better. I loved the interpretation of the original and I thought it was done well. From what I remember, none of the important parts are missing and it holds true to the play. I loved that the dialogue is also Shakespearean--I'm not sure if they are the exact lines, but they are in the same way as if they were. This is a classic I could read again and again and would highly recommend to those who love Romeo and Juliet!

I was given a chance to read this thanks to Netgalley.

{My thoughts} – I am sure everyone has read or seen a variation of this play if they haven’t read the original. I read it back in High School for an English Class that I’d been taking. This was one of those plays that it wasn’t too terribly difficult to relate to in terms of the content and what was taking place.

Romeo and Juliet are two teenagers that are obviously in love with one another. Their families the Capulet’s and Montague’s have been feuding with one another for quite sometime. Because of the feud the two are not allowed to be in love per their families wishes. The two of them come up with a plan and they try to make their love work, however in the end, there is only tragedy.

I really enjoyed reading this version of the famous play. It was incredible well done. I was completely and utterly engrossed in this book and had to finish it before I was able to move onto other things. The illustrations and the text flow together seamlessly. The raw emotion depicted in many of the illustrations send your heart into a flutter.

I have to admit I do think this is the best Manga Classic I have had the pleasure to read. I could gush over this particular book for hours. Instead though I am going to recommend that you get a copy and read it and see for yourself. I promise your not going to be disappointed!

Very accurate to the original play!! Gorgeous art! I would recommend this to anyone who is either a big fan of Romeo and Juliet or whoever wants a different way to read the play. I would have loved to read this when I was assigned to in English class. It is easier to follow, since you're not trying to tell what is descriptions and what isn't.

Very well done!

If there's one thing this book has proven, it's that I'm not cut out for Shakespeare.

That is not the fault of this book. This book is kind of awesome. Manga artwork is always stylized and (in my opinion) really beautiful, but both Romeo and Juliet are stunning. And Tybalt, my lord. The first shot of him is amazing.

But the language. Ohhhhh, that Shakespearian language. We are not friends. I had hopes that the dialogue plus art would make the story easy to follow, but if anything, it made it worse. Things got a little too Manga for me, and I just ended up confused and not a little annoyed.

If you like Shakespeare, I think you'll definitely get a kick out of this. If you're like me and thou wants to kick him a bit, you might not enjoy it.

'Manga Classics: Romeo and Juliet' by William Shakespeard with adaptation by Crystal S. Chan and art by Julien Choy is another masterful manga classic.

This time around the famous play by Shakespeare is adapted. I'm pretty sure this is the entire text of the play interwoven with manga art. It's all here, the fighting between the families, the meeting of Romeo and Juliet, and the sad ending.

At 409 pages, it's pretty long, but it's also complete. This passes the book report test (could you read this and pass a book report?). The art is really good, too.

I received a review copy of this manga from Udon Entertainment and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this manga.

This was an interesting take on a classic story. As a visual person, having the images depicting the story alongside the original writing was surprisingly helpful with understanding what was going on. I've read Romeo and Juliet in the tradition text before and struggled a lot more with the language than I did this time. To be honest, going into this I was expecting it to use more modern language than the traditional text. I was kind of bumbed at first that it didn't, but it worked. I think this is a good way for teens and young adults to introduce themselves the the classics.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Absolutely gorgeous art and the addition of visuals to the original text of the play helps readers to really Feel what the otherwise archaic words mean. This format was so helpful to understand the play. Overall, I found this to be a great read. The artwork was definitely an asset to this original play. I wish I had this manga available during the time I studied this play as it would have been very helpful and I would have definitely loved it.
