What a great book, so refreshing. I haven't read a "western" for a while and even though it tugs on my heartstrings, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
It had the same slow build of love and sassiness that made me enjoy "Radiance" by Grace Draven so much. I appreciated how the story rambled thru their daily lives and how they cared for each other.

This made me laugh since I felt this VERY same emotion recently towards the hubs...
"Don’t you tell me in over twenty years of marriage you and Judith never had a marital quarrel. I’m so angry I’d like to beat him worse than Meeks did. I’d like to shoot him so full of holes he could be a sieve. I’d like to cut off his head and bury it somewhere far away from his body, but I’ll get over it. We’ll work it out and life will go on, and in the meantime, it’s none of your business.”

And it is so sweet and has lots of feels:
"You were the first girl I ever really lusted over, you know. Not just a boy’s desire to do things to a woman, any woman, but a particular desire to do certain things to a certain woman.”

Hes pretty cute when he is naughty :) loved Cord, loved Annie- excellent story!

Extremely angst-y but beautiful Western romance! I enjoyed this a lot, a very tender love story and the way it’s written is very evocative of the time period.

Dynamic duo I didn’t know I needed. Fuck that whole racist town though. I love the mains though they have my whole heart. Maybe Martha too. And the horses. All the horses. I never thought I’d enjoy reading a horse race so much.

This is such an emotional read...with love and devotion, sacrifice, heartache and sheer determination...it was one of my all time favourites...At times I was holding my breath with anger and others I was laughing....I loved the way he teased her!...I loved the force they became when together...I will be thinking about this book for awhile...Here are 2 of my favourite quotes

“You know, Annie, a long time ago an old man told me beauty doesn't mean much in a woman. It disappears with age. But he said some women have something better. They have a special glow that lasts all their life and just gets richer. You're like that. You really shine.”

"My grandfather was an ignorant, illiterate savage, but if he'd captured you, he'd have just slit your throat. Even an ignorant savage knows better than to f*ck a bitch"

i feel like this book was so hyped up on r/RomanceBooks that my expectations going in were super high, which ultimately left me disappointed.

so much of the book was told through the perspectives of other characters that it was difficult for me to really emotionally connect with the MCs, especially since they seemed to have basically one “personality” trait each. for the FMC that was being rebellious/fiery and for the MMC that was being quiet/dangerous/the town outcast.

it probably doesn’t help that almost all of the main action happens (or feels like it happened) off-screen, only for the characters to indirectly tell the reader what happened after the fact. a lot of the big conflicts were built up and then the perspective abruptly shifted to another character which really ruined the anticipation for me.
