This book was a very classic YA thriller. I loved it - it was fun and fast and twisted - but it was also super predictable and classic teenager vibes. Overall, an okay book plot/character/writing wise but was super addictive and entertaining.

Getting into the details of it, I have read McManus before and loved her writing. Her books are fast paced with the right amount of high school drama, mystery, murder, and mayhem. This one was no exception. It was just as dramatic and thriller like as her other ones. I really liked that aspect, and I flew through it because of that.

The characters were predictable and followed classic teen archetypes and stereotypes. No one stood out to me, and I know I will forget about them over time. There is nothing wrong with the characters and they were all well written, they just weren't memorable. Same with the setting and much of the details - the story was fun and interesting and kept me hooked but it wasn't impactful or something I will remember for years after this.

I had fun and that is what this book is for. It is entertainment and a good time. It is not a serious read that will impact your life, change how you view the world, or alter who you are. So, if you are looking for a fun thriller with young romance and teenage drama, this is perfect for you. I would encourage people looking for those things to read this book, but maybe borrow it from the library.

Honestly a little disappointed by this book. I have read McManus’ books before and enjoyed them, the fast plot, whodunnit structure and the themes of friendship and trust. However, this book fell a bit flat - the romance sub-plot was unnecessary and it left Brynn and Tripp with no chemistry. There was so much going on it felt like it was being spelled out for us whilst telling us nothing, which can sometimes work in mysteries, with misdirections and red herrings, but instead made it complicated and random. I felt that either this book had to be longer to include properly all of the detail that McManus wanted to show us, or some of it could have been left out.
As a book, it felt rushed and unfinished, and left too many loose ends to feel properly sorted, not how you want a murder mystery to end.
