Wild Aces is the latest standalone by Marni Mann. It comes to us on the heels of Marni's Unblocked Collection. Wild Aces reads perfectly by itself, but I recommend reading Unblocked to get to know Frankie and Derek.

“That feeling I get when I’m around you, it wraps around my lungs and presses against my heart and tingles in my chest. It happens every time I take a breath.”

Brea Bradley is still recovering from the loss of her great love when she meets Trapper for the first time. Trapper is dealing with his own demons and has a hard time overcoming them. After a whirlwind of angst, lust and misunderstandings, I've decided that this is my favorite read of the year so far.

"There was something about this girl…"

So many unexpected feelings were happening while reading Wild Aces. Marni is known for her erotica which is all over Wild Aces, but the serious subject manor in Brea and Trapper's lives was so emotional, but more than that, refreshing. We love quick, steamy reads, but when there's sensitive subject matter to be read, it just makes the story that much more interesting. Way to go, Marni!

A standalone - spinoff from the 'Unblocked' series. (It's not necessary to read Unblocked before diving into this book!)

Phew.. where to start? This book was so amazingly well crafted that I feel like I've read an entire series of books instead of a single novel. Beware - here be sexy scenes, mind puzzling mysteries (I really wanted to find out about the imports!!) and last but not least it was filled with kleenex moments.

If you know what's good for you, you'll read Wild Aces by Marni Mann.

This book was not what I was expecting. There was a nice twist to it that was interesting. Trapper and Brea were cute together but I was wanting something more. I did like Trapper's need to help kids. Having been a lost child in the system it was nice to see there were people that cared.

Wild Aces
By: Marni Mann
Narrated by: Muffy Newtown, Jacob Morgan

Who knew going to a masquerade ball would change her life? Brea meets Trapper, both masked, sharing an incredible kiss. Exchanging numbers, the two enjoy some spicy texting, but when they finally meet, their lives take a huge turn. Marni Mann once again has me riveted to my earbuds for hours as the mystery of the story unfolds. The perfect mix of romance, erotica and suspense, Trapper and Brea's journey is not an easy one. Relevant issues, family deceptions, a second chance at happiness for Brea and a love that just will not break, is compelling and captivating. Maybe because it's in Boston, or the trip to Vegas, the secrets and they way Mann is able to flashback to years before and pop back to the present with ease, this story flows and is exciting. This is my kind of book and it's highly recommended.

What could make it better you ask? How about narration by Muffy Newtown and Jacob Morgan? This is a team that can bring out the darkness, and include the light. Both are phenomenal in their performances, bringing the characters to life. It's a perfect casting for this story.

When I finished Marni Mann’s Unblocked Collection, I had this sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. It felt like moving away from your best friends—their lives keep going on, but you drift apart and you no longer know what they’ve been up to. Marni Mann has gifted fans with a mini reunion in Wild Aces, but it is a standalone that can easily be enjoyed without reading the other books.

The story revolves around Brea, Frankie’s savvy colleague and best friend. Brea and Trapper—a professional poker player—meet at Frankie and Derek’s masquerade party, and they fall deeply in lust without seeing each other’s faces. In this beauty-focused society, imagine just being attracted to someone because of their voice and personality. That’s so hot!

Brea and Trapper only get to speak briefly at the party and know very little about each other, but they continue their flirtation over über steamy phone sex. Brea also starts sexting him almost immediately. Like seriously dirty sexting. This is my main issue with the book. How does a woman trust a virtual stranger enough to feel comfortable sexting that man and sending intimate photos of herself? It seemed unrealistic to me.

The first quarter of the book is filled with lots of sexual anticipation and naughty deeds between the two, but they don’t take enough time to get to know each other. In between the sexy times, though, an extremely intriguing plot unfolds. Brea and Trapper both have demons from their past they are battling, and the subtle tension as revelations are made is well executed. The detailed layers of their individually fascinating history are peeled back at a gratifying pace. As Trapper and Brea learn more about each other, their relationship becomes more realistic and it’s clear they are perfect together. They’re survivors, and I couldn’t help but feel compassion for them – particularly Trapper. However, Trapper is hiding something dark that could potentially destroy their relationship.

Wild Aces is a perfect combination of a mystery wrapped in an erotic romance. You’d better hold on tight because there are plot twists galore. Marni Mann has delivered an enticing, emotional, and original story, with a healthy dose of steam mixed throughout. Frankie and Derek returning to play vital roles in the story is just icing on an already enjoyable cake. Well done.
