Qian Julie Wang

I related so much to her story as an immigrant. It was easy to listen to as an audio book and entertainment while sad at the same time. I wish there was more to the story, like knowing what happened after she moved to Canada.

This memoir of a Chinese girl and her parents living in Brooklyn and constantly terrified of being deported is beautifully written and heartrending. While I could understand why Qian's father was frustrated by a life so much more difficult and precarious than he'd imagined before coming to the US, I still found some of his actions unforgivable.

Qian Julie Wang’s story is powerful. I value reading the story of an undocumented immigrant in New York City. The pace was a little bit slow for my taste, and because I’ve been on a hiatus from memoirs, I wasn’t always engaged. This is really a 4 star book, but I had a 3.5 star experience with it.
