An important story to be heard. This book centers on the author's experience with poverty more than anything else, and she talks at length about how lack of money shaped her childhood. As valuable as that perspective is, there isn't much else to this book, and it does get repetitive. The point could have been made with less length, or there could have been a second part about her ascent from poverty to round it out.

Still very compelling, and it did tug at my heart strings more than a few times. Definitely worth a read.

I had the opportunity to read this book thanks to a Goodreads Giveaway.

My one complaint about this book is that it ended. An elegantly honest insight into the struggles of a family living in an impossible situation. While autobiographies are my favourite genre, this one stood out exceptionally.

An amazing memoir of the childhood trauma of living undocumented in America.
