I love Paula Hawkins as an author, and this book was another fun one. Good range of personalities between the characters, small time jumps or flashbacks that really enhance the story, and moments that stick with you. Great weekend read!

What could have been better?
There were parts that were super slow and the book felt pretty predictable. Also I feel like sometimes there were triggers for triggers sake?

What I enjoyed?
I came in with pretty low expectations because I HATED Girl on The Train so this was better for me than that.

BUT after I got about halfway I thought it was faster paced and got more entertaining. I think, while a bit predictable at times and very triggering, the book developed well and had some suspense that I enjoyed. Also the multiple POVs helped keep my interest.

I’ve seen a lot of mixed reviews about this book but I fall somewhere in the middle! Overall, it was entertaining but not the best thriller I’ve ever read.

Good mystery but I wish I’d read the content warnings ahead of time.

There is a skillful interweaving of the lives and circumstances of many characters. Most of those lives and circumstances are quite tragic which for me meant that even though I disliked many of the characters I couldn't help but feel sad for them and regret for the chaos they caused in their lives now rooted in those tragedies.

I feel like the author also utilizes different ways in which a writer can deliver a plot twist to their reader. One way is the slow revelation of information, feeding the reader incomplete information that makes them think they understand, or misleading the reader with the POV of a certain character. Until, finally, there is clarity of how things really fit together and it's not what the reader expected. I found this very reminiscent of her previous works.

The other kind of twist being the one that the reading just really doesn't see coming. An out of nowhere shock to the system that you can only piece together by looking back and realizing that the hints were dropped along the way but you were too busy with other aspects of the book. This is the kind of twist that sometimes makes me need to set my book down for a minute to process it.

Overall, this was a much better read for me than The Girl on the Train. I think Paula Hawkins is growing as a writer and I look forward to seeing what comes next.

I was really excited when I saw this book came out because I had loved Girl on a Train.  I found the book to be a little too dark and and some of the twists felt unnecessary.  While it did grab my attention, it’s ultimately my least favorite of her books.
