Was not for me. And didn’t understand the story plot

This one is quite heavy satire, as one might expect from the synopsis! Love Passmore's art, but this one feels a little abrupt ending-wise, and I'm definitely a little allergic to the level of some (not all) of the satirical buffoonery that goes on here. Definitely shines a light on the absurdities of our tribalisms.

Ah, the award-winning graphic novel. We meet again.

Every so often a comic, excuse me, graphic novel comes along that people seem to really love. I like to call these "NPR graphic novels." Onion AV Club likes them, too. These are comics that nerdy adults who don't normally read comics feel okay reading because someone told them it was okay. In fact, it's timely, so double-plus-good! That book Here? You remember that shit?

You know how if you could hook up a machine to record your dreams and watch them later, they'd probably make no sense? There are no transitions in dreams, no progression, no linear narrative? That's what this feels like. It's a record of a dream without much to help the reader see something specific.

I think...There's an element at play of people not wanting to admit that they read this and didn't know what the fuck was going on. To admit that is to admit that you're too stupid for a comic.

But, aha! I've got the upper hand now because I have ZERO fear of admitting I'm stupid.

So I guess I'm too stupid for this book.

Liked the surreal tone, the mixing of American modes of tribalism, and the sheer chaotic audacity, but ultimately I thought metaphors got mixed and ultimately lost in the sauce. Still enjoyed this, particularly the setup, and look forward to seeing what Passmore does next.

Senseless violence, senseless hatred. Stealing and killing one another helps zero communities regardless of skin color. All destroying the neighborhood does is make businesses that could provide more affordable goods and services head for the hills. I couldn't relate to any of these characters. At least the art was beautiful.

Jaw-clenchingly intense, deeply and startlingly funny, pulling no punches. No heroes, only shades of fallibility or evil. A really powerful piece - leaves me wondering whether a longer book by this artist would keep up the same frenetic pace, or if there would be moments of vulnerability and peace.
