Yes. Yes. Yes. A million times yes.
I really enjoyed the first volume of Captain America: Winter Soldier but, as I mentioned in my review, it felt as though it was holding back. I gave it the benefit of the doubt and was holding off judgement until I'd read this volume Vol. 2 gave me exactly what I was desperate to see. Were there problems? Only if I'm going to nitpick... Oh, wait, that's why I'm hereThe plot was on it's the way to becoming tight, though there was one thing that has yet to be fully explained. When it is resolved, eventually, I guess we will know whether its inclusion was necessary for this book or not. You could see Steve's struggle but he wasn't quite as interesting as in the previous volume. In a Captain America book the hardest job, you will have it to make Steve Rogers interesting. If you consider the two volumes as one single story then they've done a pretty decent job on that front. Overall it's by far my favourite Cap story I've read so far, which was somewhat expected because it gave me the greatest gift of all. It gave me Bucky.

While I'm trying to read more graphic novels, the format just doesn't really work for me. Like volume 1, It feels like too many things are happening at once, which makes various individual stories difficult to follow. this one also contains graphic violence being done to the Winter Soldier. There's also a lot of lore that differs from the MCU.

I really enjoyed this series. I thought the first volume was a bit stronger, but this is a satisfying conclusion. I'm really looking forward to the movie adaptation, although I'm sure it will be different. I would definitely recommend this series to comic fans or comic newbies.

2018 comments: really glad I revisited these before diving into to the rest of the Brubaker run. if only because I didn't remember some pretty significant details. mainly, that Steve uses the Cosmic Cube to recover Bucky's memories & the Bucky crushes the Cube. so, you know, minor things.

reading the letters pages was also fascinating. I knew the "no one stays dead in Marvel" idea, obviously, but I had no idea that Bucky was considered such a hard exception (like, Uncle Ben level exception) until reading people freak out in the letters pages.

AHHHHHH MY BABY BUCKY!!!!! I just love him so much! And my baby Steve!!! And their friendship and love for each other!!!! I love it so so so much!

Seriously, the ending with Bucky was making me cry. God that was good. I wonder what’s after this volume. Comics/graphic novels are difficult to navigate. But if I ever find out what’s next, I’m fucking there.

Really good, though I would have liked a little more (these are weirdly short for collections, which I feel like usually have a few more issues, but I could be wrong).
