I came across this in an article about all the talented people we lost due to the AIDS epidemic, and it sounded intriguing - so I decided to read it to coincide with the Dec. 1 International AIDS Day. Unfortunately, it took me an inordinately long time to get into it, and then large sections of it (the more philosophical ones) slowed me down and I had to keep re-reading to make any sense of them. The more plot-driven portions I fared better with, and there were several set pieces that I thought quite good. The translation seemed fluid and honest, but I kept considering DNF-ing it at several points along the way. Oddly (or maybe NOT!), there are very few reviews of this in English - and it seems to be rated higher amongst readers reading it in the original language.
