Perfect

I loved 'Flawed'. I sat up until midnight reading 'Flawed' with a pounding heart and actually sat up for another hour afterwards telling my husband about it. I was unable to stop thinking about it. I still get a skipped heart when I think about it and describe it to people. It really impacted on me. I've been looking forward to the sequel for so long because I wanted more: More brutalisation, more emotion. I wanted to see Celestine develop into a powerful enough figure to destroy the guild!

Unfortunately I didn't feel that 'Perfect' had any of the same impact. What I loved about 'Flawed' was that there was a constant tension because Celestine didn't have luck on her side. She was caught up in a terrible situation and she suffered. It was edge of the seat reading because it was such a brutal society and life. It was so unlike many YA novels where the pretty heroine has luck on her side and escapes unscathed time and time again. Instead Celestine was bruatlised, so you were never quite sure that she could make it out.

'Perfect' then was a little too perfect. Luck was on Celestine's side almost constantly. Loose ends were woven in and tied off making everything neatly wrapped up. Everything happened smoothly and easily - at least, without the brutality of the first novel. There was little possibility that something would go wrong, so there wasn't much tension at all.

I loved the development that Celestine had in this novel. In 'Flawed' I barely liked her, but she stepped up a little more in this novel, and by the end I was supporting her. In 'Flawed' she seemed too whiny and self-pitying. While there was still alot of moping in this novel, she seemed dedicated to the cause and developed a backbone.

I was a little disappointed in the direction this novel took as well. There was so much emphasis on Celestine's romance with Carrick and Art that the guild and her revenge seemed to play second fiddle at times. Celestine kept describing her bond with Carrick but I never came away from 'Flawed' thinking about their bond. I never saw or felt anything particularly special about their relationship, but it was mentioned so often in 'Perfect' that it became a key theme. I wanted to see her bring the guild down, not have to choose between which boy she prefered.

'Perfect' was still a good dystopian YA novel, there was development and the story was wrapped up. I just wished that there had been more of the adult grit that we'd seen in 'Flawed' and that things hadn't been quite so 'perfect' for Celestine and her gang of merry men. It certainly didn't have the same impact on me that 'Flawed' did.

Action packed from page one. Reminders of info from book one is sprinkled in, but not in a redundant way. I wish there was a book 3.

Omg read this series! The first one was really good and the second one just made me fall in love with it even more. Perfect ending (pun intended) and I'm so sad there isn't another one.

I’m so glad this was a duology. It was the perfect length to tell this story. It didn’t drag on and it was quite engaging. I really liked reading Celestine’s story and the trials she had to overcome. Is there a lot of “luck”? Yes. Did it make it a good story? Also yes.

Perfectly flawed.

Absolutely loved it!
