Cecelia Ahern

4.05 AVERAGE

so yeah... I went on vacation half way through this, and because the book was bulky and hardback I didn't take it with me so... it took me a while to finish...

anyhoo... while this conclusion to the flawed series was pretty good, I felt like it didn't really hit the same marks as the first... so I'm giving this 3.5...

it barely developed, in terms of predictability there weren't many surprises I wasn't expecting, it felt rushed in some of the scenes and they ended tad abruptly

I still really liked the concept etc and I loved some of the characters... for her debut YA, Ahern has done well... I'll definitely pick up some of her other books in the future

Really fast paced and quick to read. Mostly super short chapters. Keeps you hooked and things constantly happen, no dull drops. Definitely written for younger adults and at times that felt a little cringey. This second book did repeat things from the first a lot but in terms of story development and excitement I thought it was a step up from the first one.

I preferred the First Book, but this provides a satisfying ending to the duology.

So I finished this last night and I am conflicted. I really enjoyed book one and the message the author tried to convey but this book fell a bit flat for me. I kept waiting for something more to happen and really it could have definitely been one whole book without the 80% filler that was book two.

- the romance really came out of nowhere in this book. there was no build up considering c + c barely spoke a sentence to each other at the ends of book one and the second chapter they are basically in love. I wanted more of a build up and we didn’t get it.
- the quest to show the truth started off strong - I liked the compound idea but the were there for a chapter and then they went. I wish this was explored more.
- the ending was fine but I kind of felt let down by it and I wanted the lead up to the reveal to be a lot more intense.

Definitely a book I would have loved more in my divergent/hunger games era.

Really enjoyed the conclusion to this duology! All of the character arcs were so satisfying and I just loved the ending of it.

Listened to this on audio and highly recommend as the narrator (Aysha Kala) is brilliant.
