1st book in the Prince of the Other Worlds series. There is a cute prequel, Dragon’s Don’t Date. You don’t need to listen to that to enjoy this, but it’s a fun intro to the MCs.

While there’s several adventures, questions answered, and some very sexy scenes - relationship wise this is a slow burn spanning multiple books. Damian and Andi have a push/pull and can’t get on the same page at the same time. I like that it isn’t always Damian pushing Andi away.

I love how Andi’s experience as a nurse makes her fairly unfazed when she encounters all the paranormal creatures in Damian’s world. I adored the world that Alexander & Lockharte have built along with a strong romantic suspense element. Normally drawn out relationship drama isn’t my thing, but I really love the action adventure element here. It has me captivated and I’m actually looking forward to Damian & Andi taking a bit to finding their HEA.

Lots to enjoy even with a cliffhanger. I’m looking forward to Dragon Destined.

Narration:
I love Victoria Mei’s performance. She has a wide range of voices, emotions, and personalities. Such a great listen that’s easy to get lost in.

While I own the entire series in ebook, I did receive a copy of the audiobooks from Home Cooked Books and am leaving an honest review.

*I won this book in a GoodReads Giveaway*

After a lot of debate, I'm going to give this book 3 stars. It's a good enough start to a series, but I do think it fell short in world building and character development.

What I liked - it was a quick read, there was plenty of action, there's a lot of things to be interested in (the lore, the side characters, the monsters, the house, DRAGONS!). And I liked the heroine Andi. I think her backstory is interesting, especially how she knew it tied into some of her behaviors, and I found myself really wanting to know more about her family and her. Her choice at the end felt good to me, and I thought not doing it sooner was okay because she was in fight/flight the entire book essentially. Overall, I feel like there is a lot of potential.

On the other hand, that potential wasn't realized in this book. It felt rushed, the action scenes were more plentiful than well executed. I would've liked fewer action scenes that were written better and did more to advance the plot. There has to be something more to the sliver of mirror. Y'all know what I'm talking about. I wanted that mystery more flushed out - even if it wasn't solved this book. There really wasn't a lot of world building and I found that frustrating. I know this is a paranormal romance, not an urban fantasy, so most of the book is going to be focused on the romance but that's no reason not to build out your world better. Speaking of the romance, sigh. There was a lot of sexy time in case anyone was worried there wouldn't be because it says slow burn (LOL on calling this slow burn), but maybe also too much sexy time considering how short this book is. Also at one point Damian does something - you'll know when you read it - that just goes too far when it comes to him being a jerk to "keep her safe". I'm willing to see where it goes in book 2 because this is a paranormal book and I don't expect a dragon to be well-adjusted and fully capable of having a human partner yet (thinking of the first book in Nalini Singh's Archangel series), but he better up his game. I won't read further if he shows no character growth as the story progresses. Being an Alpha male shouldn't automatically default to being a total a**hat.

This book was one I thoroughly enjoyed! The banter between Andi and Damian really makes the sparks fly and makes it so entertaining! The heat? Damian’s dragon is too hot to handle. Who needs a bed when there is a very convenient wall?!

Victoria Mei does an excellent job with the narration. It is easy and enjoyable to discern which character is speaking, even when you’re caught up in the story!

Dragon Called by Kara Lockharte and Cassie Alexander is a slow burn paranormal romance. This is the first book in the Prince of the Other Worlds series so it was no surprise that the book ends on a cliffhanger.

This is the first book of Kara and Cassie’s that I have read and it definitely won’t be my last. This story pulled me in from the very first chapter and I just had to know how it was going to end.  I absolutely loved the chemistry between Andi and Damian.

I cannot wait for the second book in the series Dragon Destined to be released on May 17, 2020.

I would highly recommend this series if you love Paranormal Romances.

Seems like a good story...

I think I’ve tried to read this book twice, but couldn’t get into it. The story was just slow to get started.

Coming off of the emotion of The Boneless Mercies and Wolfsong, I wanted a quick read that was going to be mostly pure entertainment. Dragon Called filled that niche. It was funny, imaginative, and had a great leading lady. I just wish that the ending had been better developed.

Female protagonist wise, I really liked Andi. No-nonsense and in it for the money, but when confronted with the hidden world of werewolves and dragon shifters, she approached everything with a sense of awe and nervous humour. It was very refreshing.

“What do you think you’re doing?”

“Petting a werewolf? Maybe? Should I have asked for permission first? I don’t know”

“You don’t pet werewolves”

“Why not?”

In the plot there are these attacks from various elements of the supernatural. These scenes are well done and engaging, however they do not feel cohesive. I felt as if there might have been some attempted foreshadowing towards a greater connection, but nothing about the world itself was expanded on enough to determine anything. The world, in general, just sort of felt like an afterthought.

My only other issue with the novel was the ending. It sort of comes out of nowhere, and feels very rushed and hasty. This isn’t necessarily because it ends on a cliffhanger, though admittedly that probably doesn’t help. It is almost as if everything was cut off mid-conversation, so you get no sense of finality or catharsis. As a reader, you aren’t able to see Andi or Damien’s internalized response to events so it doesn’t feel finished
