Looking at the 2 book saga of Krondor's Sons, I'd say this book has more substance. Important to note- it should. Coming in 100ish more pages than The Prince of Blood, as well as relying on far more established character than Borric and Erlands adventure, The Kings Buccaneer has more working for it. At times this book felt bogged down by Nicholas's internal struggles that (for me) persisted a bit too long, but otherwise the book fares well. Feist is masterful at creating characters I care about, in a similar world, and this book is no different.
Re-reading a book after 20+ years and remembering most of the plot and character arcs clearly means that this book greatly impacted me the first time I read it. I still had a lot of fun reading it the second time.
Coming back to the world of Midkemia gave me the comfort that I needed. It had the characters I knew and loved, it was smoothly written, without any boring (to me) parts, and it was packed with adventure I could follow. I forgot some details of the book over the years, and it was fun to rediscover them.
