Pru was definitely the worst part of this book! She definitely made me cringe. Her screaming down the classroom over her B- plus her arrogance at thinking she’s the better person really had me for a while. I think, by the end, she has begun to at least consider that people might have different opinions to her own…
That being said, I liked that we did have a flawed MC, and it wasn’t a ‘fake’ flaw that is secretly attractive. I’ve read so many books where the character’s “flaw” is that they’re an independent, badass loner, for example. Or the dreaded “clumsy” flaw. I liked that Pru was confident to the point of arrogance. It was different.
The nature and sea life theme also got me. I’m a sucker for the sea. Pru had me so annoyed for the first half when she was like “Why don’t we turn everything into a tourist trap to make money?!” Nah girl. Listen to Quint, for once.

Honestly I had high hopes for this book buy it kind of fell flat. I didnt like the main character at all. I almost didn't want her to have a happy ending lol. And the karmic justice? I thought it would be much heavier in the book, but it wasn't. The book focused more on the whole sea animal preservation thing. The moral of the story was nice though.

I really wanted to like this book. While it was a step away from Meyer's usual retellings I found the main character Prudence very annoying and self serving. It's like for a good portion of the book she didn't want to even try to give Quint a chance let alone a break. There was also no rhyme or reason to her getting this "power" when it happened so I just mainly felt confused. Hopefully others found it a little easier to swallow.

Review to come! (There will probably be a lot of excited fangirling over the love interest...)
This is a fun yet deep YA contemporary that I think a lot of readers will enjoy!
The main character, Prudence, is a Leslie Knope type. She's driven, a high achiever and has little patience for others who don't work as hard as she does. Quint, her science parter, is the biggest obstacle in her way for achieving those dreams, as he habitually shows up late to class and doesn't seem to care as much as Pru does about their project.
There is a LOT of growth for Pru in this story. To be honest, it was a struggle connecting with Pru initially. Her perspective is really harsh against others, which ends up grating a bit on the nerves. But the magic of the story is how Pru's eyes are slowly opened to seeing things from others' perspectives and understanding there are so many sides to a story that just hers.
A challenge I had with the story was with the magic of the instant karma Pru is gifted with. It felt neglected or forgotten at some points of the story and felt a little unwieldy at times (some paybacks are way more extreme than others).
The other issue was the fallout of a big reveal that felt dramatic and out of character. It was hard to believe and disrupted the flow of the story, which struggled with momentum at times.
I think a lot of readers will enjoy this book. It's a solid contemporary read!

when Quint and Rosa accuse Pru of stealing their fundraiser moneyI think a lot of readers will enjoy this book. It's a solid contemporary read!
I love anything Marissa Meyer has written. So I was a bit put off when I started this book and within the first two chapters, was not in love with Prudence. But I tried to look her as a realistic human with flaws, instead of a perfect fairy tale character. It made me fall in love with her as who she is, and I enjoyed this book so much. It made me feel motivated to have as much confident drive as she does, and the love story was charming and enjoyable without being eyeroll inducing.
