it’s been a hot minute since i’ve read a new YA contemporary and this one was amazing! loved the dynamic between prudence and quint, their time at the center, the twist at the end

I received this through Netgalley.

Prudence is the teen version of a Karen, which makes it difficult to like her or want to listen to her story. I wasn't particularly thrilled with her romantic counterpart, though he was better than her. Meyer can write great characters, which pull me in, but this book didn't have the characters that I needed to read about.

The audio reader works better with the AI scifi book that Meyers writes, but her flat affect added to the unlikeablity of the main character.

My bestie gave me this book for Christmas 2021 and I was very excited to read it, since she had been telling me all about how great it is.

It truly is a great book, even though at some times I think it swayed from the main point.

But overall it was great and I really enjoyed the characters.

And if I’m being honest, the main character, Prudence reminds me a lot of myself; both her good and bad characteristics. :3 Quint also reminded me of like a mix between two people I know. So I like the fact that the characters are relatable.

This book really shows how opposites do attract, which I just love. I’ve always like the idea of this, even thought I don’t necessarily know why.

Anyway.

It’s a great book and I would definitely recommend for people 12+ looking for a cute and cozy book to read. :)

Once I got the Lunar Chronicles out of my head I was able to get into this one. I loved Quint. But most of all? I want to go love on some Harbor Seals and Sea Otters.

Marissa Meyer can't go wrong with me. Just like all her other books, this one felt like a warm blanket, and I loved wrapping myself in it. I think I would have loved it even more had I read it in summer, but it still made for an amazingly entertaining read even in winter. It is vastly different from her fantasy writing, yet it still feels comfortable somehow.

I’d have to give this a 2.5. I didn’t hate it. I didn’t necessarily like it. The main character was so unlikeable the whole time and the big reveal at the end was pretty obvious. I like Meyer’s writing or I wouldn’t have picked it up, it just felt very lacking to me.
