Kláraði vissulega ekki helminginn, en las summary og hlustaði á fyrirlestur um hana :P

A good ghost story hiding behind a horrible writing style. James is very good at writing very long sentences that say nothing at all.

However if you can persevere till the halfway point the plot does get good enough to keep you hooked till the end

i just didn’t understand most of the second half of this. the ending was poor

This is such a good old fashioned creep fest. The whole story from start to finish is absolutely chilling. If you want a good thrill read that will keep you guessing and have an ending that sits with you a minute, check this out.

I just....I just didn't get it.

How is this a classic??

Picked it up because I'd heard it inspired a horror movie I'm really fond of, but this prose is extremely hard work. And I like Victorians normally, so I don't think it's just me. Putting it aside for something easier, might come back if I ever feel like the kind of project where you have to read every sentence three times to get any kind of sense out of it.

I had to stop halfway through...
Just not my style.

Classic for a reason

This was an unpleasant fever dream.

The idea of this story and its contributions to the genre >>> the text itself. Quite cumbersome! Reminds me why 19th century English lit is…well….anyway! There were at least a *few* moments where I was really hit by the profundity of what James was writing. Can’t take that away from him.
