This was great even though I watched the show before reading the book. It has a few differences, and the show definitely expanded some of the plots but I just love the mix of history and magic. 

One of the things that seemed very different was how much more the show used women. I was definitely missing the kumiho plot & now I need to go watch it again!

Honestly a white person writing a book about Jim Crow era racism from the perspective of Black people is not it for me.  That and the slurs that were completely unnecessary to write down.

Then there is the fact that this story was pretty disjointed at best. It had an interesting plot, but that is about all that was going for it.
