it was really interesting, lots of little notions and ideas that made me think; remembering history and recognising that it is indeed the context to everything that happens now; aren’t we lucky that we are able to research and think what we’d like to. i did think in parts it was slow, didn’t like the pages about the context of ‘the book’. very interesting thing really

I went into this blind and did not know what to expect, but I don’t think I saw this coming?

It was good and it had me very intrigued and then out of nowhere a mention of forced cannibalism. You continue the story thinking “ oh well big brother is always watching, hahaha.”

And then BAM, a love relationship created out of the hate to the regime. And then BAM,  torture because it’s found out they hate the regime. It felt like a rollercoaster in which I understand calling it a classic and I also kinda understand why it’s banned. Because conservatives would have been thrown of by those “surprises”

Sad. When you read it, you start comparing it to our modern day and how our future could look like. It puts emotions and how little we are into perspective ☹️

Incredibly engaging performance edition. Truly made me feel scared and even unwell in some parts. Utterly brilliant and horrifying.

Now this is how you frighten people. I love how we get to see the main character’s thought process all the way. It’s so gripping. The atmosphere is so chilling yet inviting as well and I love how the book wraps itself up.

I have to DNF this
I've previously read a shortened version of it for my English-as-a-foreign-language class and been meaning to pick up the full version for the last few years.
I've read about 30% and it's good, it's thought-provoking and I've made tons of notes on it already, it's surely a must-read for anyone in this day and age.

However it's certainly one of the most depressing books ever written (along with the other totalitarian-dystopias like [b:We|41109257|We|Yevgeny Zamyatin|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1534074361l/41109257._SX50_.jpg|2144026]) and it's too much for me. I am already depressed to open the news every single day and only Lord's grace is keeping my sanity.
