Bittersweet facet of the ending that I can’t tell if I appreciate or not

I found this a long tedious read.
Annabelle was ridiculously juvenile. As a single parent, I found her utterly unrealistic. She is so divorced from reality, it's like her son just materialised and she has no knowledge of him at all. I get that she babies him, but really refering to the toilet as "go potty"? I find it incredulous that anyone would say that to a teen...let alone a mother desperate to reconnect.

I couldn't like or care about any of the characters. I listened to the audio book and I wonder how much of this dislike of the characters was caused by the narrator. In particular, he gave Annabelle a very high girly voice which I found childish and pathetic.

This was a slog, one of those books where I felt I was being told what to think or feel rather than actually experiencing it.

Plus the sudden miraculous recovery of all the major characters was just ludicrous.
