Oh, this book did NOT disappoint! In fact, it exceeded my expectations and was so much more of an emotional ride than I was prepared for (but in a good way)! While there is a lot to be said for the characters and relationships in this book, I actually think it’s the dialogue that was the star of the show for me. I long to have the wit of these characters, especially Patrick of course!

I knew this book dealt with grief, but I was expecting a somewhat lighthearted comedy concentrating on the hilarity and hijinks of a gay bachelor in Palm Springs taking two children under his wing. And while it IS both hilarious and charming, it’s also very thoughtful in its exploration of grief and its lasting effects. It’s the balance of happy and sad, I think, that made me love the characters so deeply. The exploration and development of the characters is honestly so beautiful to read.

Don’t let the cover fool you - this book WILL make you cry - but it will also make you laugh and cheer and take stock of the blessings around you. You will long for a GUP (Gay Uncle Patrick) of your own!
