this was a great conclusion to the first arc 😮💨 i need to see LN3-4 adapted in s2 or else
i really hope shisui/loulan is doing well, the ending made it seem like she was alive? idk it was p ambiguous lolol. i also def judged suirei far too harshly as well, poor girl deserves better. i didn't expect the story to take such a dark turn, and the shi clan ended quite tragically.
as for our best girl maomao and the hopeless romantic jinshi... well, i thought the character development for both maomao and jinshi individually and together made some decent progress in this novel, and can't wait to see what shenanigans they get up to hehe 🐸

Things get serious in this volume! It's definitely a must-read. Unanswered questions, and even questions you didn't know you should've had, are answered in this one.
It's is a satisfying end of what seems to be the first part of Maomao's story. She has grown as a character, though there are some parts I will be most curious to see if they stick. She's a stubborn one like that, but there are so many wonderful moments where I'm just thinking, Oh wow, that's not something Maomao would've said when she first arrived at the rear palace.
Jinshi!! Ahhhhh the cat is out of the bag, and the story must move on! To where? I'll find out soon. He gets some lovely growth as well, and I'm happy the author took the time to write that in.
His relationship with Maomao seems to have not changed, but at the same time, has changed drastically in other ways. If this is to be a romance, it's certainly a slow burn, but I'd have it no other way. I'm not entirely sure if Maomao's onboard with the romance yet haha!
