We get not only the continuation of Gabriel and Dior's story but also a more complete picture of Gabe's current circumstances. I feel that the culmination of both storylines will be tied up in rather rapid succession in the next book. The pieces are all falling into place.

Also, the artwork in the book is amazing.

I am hooked. Gimme book #3, please!

Empire of the Damned begins right where the first book ended. It’s as dark and haunting as ever.
I thoroughly enjoy the second perspective thrown in by Gabriel’s sister, Celene. It elevated the story, just don’t get attached to any characters.

Read with audible & kindle. Personally I would highly recommend reading over listening;
1. The glossary significantly helped. As I finished the first book a while ago.
2. There are more characters, world building & lore added in. I prefer being able to highlight all the aforementioned.
3. Lastly, who doesn’t enjoy the visual artwork within?

Empire of the Damned — I’ve waited years for this book to be in my hands, and was it worth it? A thousand times yes. Going into this review, I want to be very careful of any type of spoiler because this is the kind of book you need to go into blind.

If I can count on Jay for one thing, it’s his ability to weave a story that utterly enthrals and was extremely difficult to put down. Empire of the Damned is sure to stay with me just as its predecessor has.

Love, family, horror, and faith bleed through the pages of this book. There was a surprise twist that I didn’t see coming — book two with alternating books there after I’ll say — that had me absolutely excited and I loved that new perspective. I felt with this one, the blood ran deeper and ah, the story — THE STORY! Brilliant and dark and never a moment of rest. I loved exploring further into the world and delving into the Dyvok vampires where the true terror of this story dwelled. Still, amongst all the blood shed there was that odd possibility that love could conquer all — that infernal beast called hope.

Empire of the Damned was everything I could’ve hoped for and more! And now, the wait must once again begin for the third book!

My forever gratitude to St. Martin’s Press for blessing me with the chance to read early — merci.

PS: Is it bad that I actually like Francois?
