3.5 I was so excited for this one and a bit disappointed. There were so many side plots and stories. It was missing the fun of the first one.
Another long ass book, but I much preferred this entry. This set pieces were better, the narrative more original, more interesting and developed side characters, and a good mix of entertaining and twist filled plot elements. Kristoff seems to be more comfortable with this narrative style too - I like how he can effortlessly take us back to the story teller and the Historian during moments and maintain the weight of the story telling. This made me excited for book 3 when I wasn't really excited for book 2.

I need to come back to this when I'm in the mood for it. I'm not paying attention at all so I have no idea what's going on and I hate that.
I like this world so want to give it the attention it deserves when the time is right.

“Empire of the Damned” by Jay Krisoff is a book about vampires and war. First off, the world and story line were complicated and confusing. It is a good book for people who like super detailed High Fantasy books. This book was really not for me, I didn’t like the characters much. I give a 2 out of 5 stars.
