How long do I have to wait until book three? That was immediate thought of finishing this second instalment. I hope it is not too long as I need to be back in this world, I need more Gabriel de Leon, Phoebe, Dior and oh my the utter compelling darkness that is Celene Castia.

I love Gabe. A damaged broken man who is full of bitter rage. He has a way with words and with a sword and has basically no fucks left to give. In this book we learn so much more about him but also see him develop relationships with some of the other characters that show a softer side to him.

Then there is Celene. She truly is darkness itself and I have to admit I absolutely bloody love her. When towards the end she tells the historian to, 'give my regards to Margot' but then whispers, I will be seeing her very soon, I grinned in delight.

I love everything about these books. The world building, the complex characters and their development, the language, the sense of discovery but also that sense of foreboding. I learned in book two that no one is safe when it comes Mr Kristoff. Key characters are just as a risk as side one's and that means there is always a real sense of jeopardy.

I am addicted, enthralled, obsessed and honestly a little a bit in love with the whole bloody thing.

As with book one, hugely recommend the audio which is brilliantly done with dual narrators.

Jeigu norisi sunkios ir žiaurios, su daug kraujo, fantastikos Kristoff knygos visada puikus pasirinkimas. Ir niekada nežinai ko laukti gale knygos. Čia skaitant gale buvo taip: “oh shit. Omfg. WTF? Shit. Whaaaat?”. Ir nors Kristoff atrodo negaili savo skaitytojų jausmų, šioje knygoje, gal kiek švelniai jis dar elgėsi pasakyčiau, nors bijau trečios dalies dabar dar labiau, nes pririsirišau prie kai kurių veikėjų ir jeigu čia jiems pavyko išsisukti… tai numanau, kad toliau aš verksiu. O kas dar labiausiai patinka šitoje knygoje? Pasikartosiu milijoninį kartą - ILIUSTRACIJOS! Och kaip jos suteikia daugiau įsijautimo į istoriją

it was good, not as good as the first one though

i liked the action, the plot, the twists, i loved learning more about the world and the history of the characters. i just found the switch of narrators kinda annoying, it took me out of the story a little too much.

but amazing writing, great dialogue, great characters.
