Aptly titled; woefully executed. Squanders the setup, themes, and mystique of the first book in favor of vapid, sensational depictions of violence and abuse. I feel betrayed by the author.

2nd book of the series. Much better than book 1.
The last 200 pages is like a grim dark SANDERLANCHE. Awesome read.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review Empire of the Damned by Jay Kristoff. This is book 2 in the series.
The genre of this book is listed under fantasy, vampires, and paranormal.
Because this is book 2, the author does a great job of doing a summary of what happened with each character in the beginning of the book. I wish more authors did that.
A quick summary is the book is the life story of our main character Gabriel. He is in jail while he is telling this. He is half human half vampire and was part of a holy order to get rid of vampires. The reason Gabriel is in jail is because he saved a woman named Dior that was supposed to be sacrificed in a ritual that would’ve gotten rid of the days death and because he did this, they could be damned forever.
The second book takes place right where it left off with Gabriel in prison, but with this book we get some other povs with Dior and with Gabriel’s sister Celene. We get to learned about different types of vampires and the vampire hierarchy. We get some love interests and some other main characters. This was definitely more of a middle book that’s preparing us for the vampire apocalypse and for the climax and end of the series.
I’m excited to see where Jay Kristoff takes us with the rest of the series
¿He dicho sangre?

So for me this was a tale of two book… (the book is split into 6 books)… books 1-3 led me to want to DNF this… I didn’t love it, the pacing, the banter all got old and I was disappointed. Then Book 4 seemed like a different book. More happened the pace picked up and from there to the end was a 5 star. So great end but getting through the first ~350 pages was a chore… the last 300 were great and I loved them…. Overall 3.5 star… still think I will pick up the next book… just hope it’s more focused and shorter
I loved it! It was just as good as the first book if not better. I'm invested now and looking forward to the next installment. However, I am a little nervous too, Kristoff's author bio said he doesn't believe in happy endings. I'm hoping for bittersweet, maybe?

If you're in a toxic relationship with Jay Kristoff, raise your hands 🙌🏽
I hate myself and Jay every time I read one of his books and I keep telling myself the addiction is far less harmful than being on cocaine, but is it really? I don't know anymore.
Read his books, he's a menace, but we worship him. That is all I have to offer, I can't even write reviews anymore.
