I hated the side pairing of
Merrick and Saint
. It ruined both characters for me and felt incredibly forced.

The plot was a bit busy, but it dealt with things that needed taking care of. I felt like I was being pulled in 10 different directions, but that's also because Stephen felt like that. Each of the problems packed a punch, nothing was watered down. The relationship was a bit rocky for them, but for good reasons. It's a treat to have a romance book that isn't about a couple getting together, but about an established couple dealing with hurdles and feelings and trying to plan for the future. I feel like both Stephen's and Cranes needs were met, and I can see the HEA extending into the future. Most of the characters introduced in the last book stuck around for this one and the bonds with the supporting cast seem stronger. The sex is still Kinky and the magical murders are still Very Gory.

This review is for the whole trilogy:
I expected a fairly entertaining but otherwise unremarkable little romance fantasy. But hell I loved the trilogy. The story, the magic, the characters. Just amazing. It was unique and lovely and tense and beautiful. The realtionships were great and KJ Charles somehow managed to balnce everything perfectly in just a few pages. The adventure, the love, sex, friendship, magic and so on. And it feels like the whole world could be expanded and lots more stories could be told. I sincerely hope so.

The final installment of this trilogy more than made up for the slower second book! This was tightly plotted, with wonderful tension across the relationships and the overarching plotline, and a very satisfying conclusion. I absolutely loved Crane’s final confession of love while wildly insulting his captors, and Stephen’s acceptance of Crane’s affections, seeing himself as enough of a “trade” in the relationship, was a good conclusion to their story arc.

The lyrics at the end in the short story were kind of awkward, but there you go.
