This book was the perfect mix of memoir and history. I love the way in which Laing talks about the garden as a sort of haunted house, full of ghosts and almost a ghost itself. I have seen people describe this book as depressing, but I think it is just morbid enough and that you people are just too scared of discussions of death!!!
