It should be 3.5 stars. I liked it, but I didn't really "really like it" if you know what I mean. The writing and literary tricks and tools used here are similar to The Shadow of the Wind. This book is a prequel of sorts. A bookseller said this book is to writing what The Shadow of the Wind is to reading. He was pretty dead on. Overall though, this story was much less fulfilling than The Shadow of the Wind. It may be unfair to compare the two, but it is difficult not to.
all I can say that after reading this book I’m not okay

This book is the prequel to The Shadow of the Wind and in some places it seemed very far fetched and other worldly with the events that took place- however, the mystery is gripping and I just had to keep on reading.
I enjoyed the first book and was looking forward to going back into the world, the characters are different but there are still references to the characters in SoTW which really helped get invested in the story.
It follows a writer (similar to the first book) and some mysterious events that surround him, shadowing those of another writer with the same initials, a writer he discovers after entering the Cemetery of Forgotten Books. In some places it seemed like there were many fanciful elements to it, and it wasn’t making sense, but the more I read the more everything fell into place.
It’s a good prequel.
If I ever re-read them I may read them in chronological order.
4/5 stars.
An unreliable narrator but a gripping story.
