A bit different from the first book (SOTW) in the series in that it was more open ended, and I felt it was more open to reader interpretation than logic. Might not have lived up to its predecessor but still so much better than half the current books on the market. Looking forward to the third book.

Didn't like it as much as The Shadow of the Wind. There were too many Hollywood touches - doors inexplicably left unlocked, typical horror film cliches, people being systematically bumped off etc. I liked the idea, however, and it does draw you in to the story.

The Best Book I´ve never read.
Whenever I am telling someone about The Angel´s Game, I always say it´s the best book I have never read. It´s because I own the audio version, which is simply divine (I am partial to Dan Stevens and his narrations :)). Much like the Boss in the story, I can say I "read" it at least once a year. Out of all the books written by contemporary authors, this is hands down my favourite one.
Most people I know prefer The Shadow of the Wind, and they usually find The Angel´s Game too complicated or too fantastic. Even though I like The Shadow of the Wind, I think comparing these two books is not fair. Where The Shadow is a brilliant story-within-story kind of a novel, for me, The Angel´s Game transcendents fiction. It is just as well-crafted, it has tons of twists, and it´s overall a thrilling story, but on top of that, it touches on several profound topics and has so many memorable quotes, it would be difficult to point out just one or two. The conversations between David and Corelli alone are enough of a reason to pick it up.
The characters are relatable, and Zafón does not hesitate to make their fates utterly heartbreaking. The plot itself is pretty unbelievable when you think about it, yet I have never questioned anything that happens, I just board the train and enjoy the journey.
Also, it´s a perfect book for this time of the year. The weather is a bit colder, the days are getting shorter, and if a bit of autumn nostalgia is your thing, you won´t be disappointed.
