This was an odd but highly intriguing book. I couldn't put it down. But, the ending left much to be desired.

4.5/5
Genial, como el anterior aunque un poco más lioso. He terminado el libro y sigo sin entender una parte, si David se disparaba o no xD

Wanted to like it more. I loved the first book of this series, but was disappointed with thus one. The author has a wonderful talent with words. A beautiful writer. His story telling is lacking. I didn't feel the story moved very fast. There were times I wished he would just move a long with the mystery and leave other parts out.

I adored Shadow of the Wind so, naturally I picked up the second book based in that world of the early 1900's Barcelona. It takes place a generation before Daniel, his dad being a young man and a background character. I really enjoyed the first part and the third part, but the second didn't keep the pace. Because there was an actual supernatural element in this book, instead of just mystery, it was harder to read and bogged the story down for me.

But I really liked David and Isabella's relationship and I liked the tie ins to Shadow of the Wind. Overall, it was a good read.

***EDIT 2019***
Just reread this while trying to read the whole series up to this point in quick succession. And oh my goodness is this book a whole lot better the second time. The second part is long but it didn’t feel bogged down this time around. It has a sort of heaviness. A heaviness that almost reflects what David is dealing with at the same time. Also the supernatural elements didn’t put me off this time around but were exciting especially entering into the third part.
