I will never not read a Natasha Pulley novel. She continues to be an absolute master of magical realism with every book she writes. I only regret that the books have to eventually end.

Unfortunately, I read this book after seeing some hype on TikTok and it did not meet my expectations. The writing was good and the plot was unique. I liked Kite and Joe but I don’t think I really connected with them or any of the other characters. I’m glad there was a happy ending though 🤷🏾‍♀️

Alternative history with time slip, sounds good, should be my kind of fantasy yet I found it painfully slow and really found it a struggle to get to the end. The world building is strong and detailed, the descriptions really make the settings believable. I won’t try to describe the plot, it’s convoluted! There’s lots of great imagery and ideas throughout.

Very clever premise and great dialogue, with characters who are interesting and complex, which is always a plus. Getting a good time travel story together is always sort of difficult, but Pulley has no problems with those aspects. However, the predictable nature of some of the plot points was a bit wheel-spinning when it had seemed very obvious yet the story continued on as though it wasn't. Also, I think Pulley needs to get a little more careful in how she disposes of female characters. An enjoyable read, despite the flaws.
