Super interesting style and premise. It is told backward; literally starts with Chapter 18. Good narrator.

Would also label NA.

Spoiler.

Lots of violence, murder, some language, some sexual content, drinking
...basically your YA genius psychopath

The beginning will reel you in an you’ll be expecting an action packed story, but after the first chapter it was very confusing and slow moving. The ending is also pretty predictable. It took me a little longer to get through this one than most simply because i wasn’t as interested in it as other books I’ve read.

Written in an interesting format as the "true" beginning of the story isn't told until the end of the book.

3ème lecture, et comme d'hab je suis surprise et je mets du temps à tout comprendre, mais Jule et Imogen reste toujours aussi cool !

WOW this was a wild ride! Not the contemporary YA I was expecting, and much more of a thriller/mystery. I'm glad I had no idea what it was about going in: the back cover and Goodreads description are super non-descriptive, but it's definitely a better read the less you know about it going in. The narrative structure is fun: the book begins with Chapter 18, and then works its way back to Chapter 1, so the story is told in reverse.

My only issue was with the ending: after so much buildup, the ending felt abrupt and kind of lazy. Also, after learning so much about Imogene's background, I was disappointed we didn't get to learn more about Jule's, too. I felt like I was still left with a lot of questions about her motivations. Overall, still a fun, quick read to start off the year.

Interesting construction and unlikeable characters that weren't completely hateful, but this was not the book for me. I read it in one sitting and finished it, so it gets two stars instead of just one.

This book was a whirlwind of good times even though it was very very confusing!

That's seriously how it ends? I thought it was moving towards her true origin story, but instead decided to be obnoxious. So much for true character development.

I will never forget the moment when the twist in E. Lockhart's We Were Liars made everything fall into place.  My brain lit up, my eyes flew wide open, and I practically had to drag my jaw back up off the floor.  So, when I realized that E. Lockhart had written another book with crazy twists and dark secrets, I just had to check it out.  Somehow, though, I managed to miss the fact that the story was going to be told backwards.  When I started listening to the audiobook, I literally thought my OverDrive app had malfunctioned and forgotten to play the parts in order.  After all, most books don't start with Chapter 18!  After looking into it and confirming that it was, in fact, playing the parts in the correct order, I sat back to enjoy the ride.  And what a ride it was!

I've said before that it's rare for me to finish a book in a single sitting, or even in a single day... but to finish a nearly 7-hour-long audiobook in just over a day is quite a feat for this working mama!  I had my headphones on at every opportunity as I found myself looking for solitary chores to complete -- washing dishes, folding laundry, etc.  I just had to figure out what exactly it was that Jule (using the name Imogen) was running from and how she ended up in a tropical paradise with money to burn.  Beginning at the end of the story not only worked well for this thriller, but it even allowed for a completely shocking twist.  I kid you not, I literally started the audiobook right over again and listened to the first few chapters to see what clues I may have missed!  If you're looking for a quick-paced thriller with a surprisingly charming villain, you have GOT to check this book out.

Happy Reading!

Wow. Like wow that was just Talented Mr. Ripley just less good. Quick tho.
