The backwards thing was really confusing and I could not keep up

This book had its merit and I enjoyed how I didn’t understand what was going on/ it constantly tricked me. I liked the reverse chronological order of events but idk just wasn’t my favorite.

For a teen read this book had lots of twists and turns and murder. I dug it. The story is kind of like the movie, Memento, it humps around in time, but mostly it moves backward, towards the truth. Jule is a chameleon, she can be whoever you need her to be and she's strong and smart. Imogen is a spoiled heiress who never questions anything. Together they have an unusual friendship, one that makes more and more sense as the story progresses. It's a story of deception, entitlement, smarts, money, lies, and eventually... the truth. The audiobook was a solid listen. A good follow up novel from the teen author of the smash bestseller, We Were Liars.

I had low to no expectations for this book, yet somehow I was still disappointed.

I think this is more of a 3.5 stars. I didn't like it as much as We Were Liars, although I know it's stupid to compare the two as they're completely different. It took me a while to get used to the writing style and how it was presented. There were also parts that I wanted more clarification on because I had to reread a few parts to get a decent understanding. It was a gripping book, I read it so quickly, but I just didn't love it. What I did really like though was the anti-hero element. I'd like to read this again but read it backwards so it might make more sense in the parts that confused me. I liked that it was a different writing style but it's just something I had to get used to and adapt to.
